Also 33% of the journey time would be saved with direct long-haul flights from Wellington to North America. The existing 2,081m runway needs to be extended by about 300m to allow bigger jets to land and take off. This means direct fights to North America and Asia destinations will be possible. The cost is a cool $1m per metre!!
